One of the plotlines of WE ARE WATER was based on a tragic 1963 flood in my hometown (Norwich CT.) Recently I attended a moving dedication ceremony that honored the victims and survivors of the tragedy. Photos include the March 1963 newspapers about the flood; the Moody brothers–Tom, Shawn, and Jim–posed beneath the “tree of life” from which they were rescued with hero Tony Orsini, who, with the boys’ parents, helped save their lives; Roberta Vincent with the “Tree of Life” monument she campaigned to erect to honor those involved, particularly Margaret “Honey” Moody who drowned in the act of saving her sons.

Meet the kids who will star in Synthetic Cinema International’s Wishin’ & Hopin’ this Christmas: Wyatt Ralff as Felix Funicello, Quinn McColgan as Rosalie Twerski, Siobhan Cohen as Zhenya Kobakova, and Shawn Ervin as Lonny Flood. They’re perfectly cast and as sweet and fun as they are talented. Awesome parents, too!
