One of the plotlines of WE ARE WATER was based on a tragic 1963 flood in my hometown (Norwich CT.) Recently I attended a moving dedication ceremony that honored the victims and survivors of the tragedy. Photos include the March 1963 newspapers about the flood; the Moody brothers–Tom, Shawn, and Jim–posed beneath the “tree of life” from which they were rescued with hero Tony Orsini, who, with the boys’ parents, helped save their lives; Roberta Vincent with the “Tree of Life” monument she campaigned to erect to honor those involved, particularly Margaret “Honey” Moody who drowned in the act of saving her sons.
